Bedmart Donates Mattress Sets to Network Show
(Tucson, AZ) Bedmart, Arizona’s largest mattress retailer, went to extreme lengths to do some good for a worthy family. During the last week of January, Tucson, Arizona homebuilders and volunteers rallied to build a new home for a Tucson family. Bedmart was on hand to make sure when the family returned to their new home and the excitement died down, they would be able to get a great night’s sleep!
“The Bells are a local family dealing with one of life’s worst possible problems – a sick child. Yet, this family has consistently reached out to help others. It was our privilege to help them by donating three Queen size mattress sets,” said Chuck Kill Bedmart CEO.
The Bell family was chosen because their daughter, Lizzie, suffers from a rare blood disorder, Diamond-Blackfan Anemia. The disorder prevents Lizzie’s blood from manufacturing sufficient red blood cells and she is transfusion dependant. However, Lizzie has used her problem as a springboard to help others. She has received a Hero Award from the Southern Arizona Red Cross for her efforts to increase blood donations and the family has established the John P. Bell Foundation. The Foundation distributes “Lizzie’s Loot,” toys and toy boxes for hospitals and individuals and offers support for blood drives and donor education.
The cost of care for Lizzie left the Bell family financially unable to maintain their home, which had deteriorated and was infested with mold and termites. ABC’s Ty Pennington arrived on the scene with the help of hundreds of Tucson volunteers to tear down the old house and replace it with a new, energy-efficient home.
“Bedmart is very proud to be one of the local businesses who were able to contribute to reducing the worries of this outstanding family. Helping them was a privilege,” Kill concluded.
